Tsakane – Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates supporters are pleading with soccer fans to stop buying illegal tickets.
This after two were killed while 16 were injured during a stampede to force entry into the FNB Stadium during the derby between the two teams over the weekend.
It is alleged a group of supporters who were in possession of fraudulent tickets pushed their way into Gate K, injuring others as they walked over them.
Kaizer Chiefs supporter in Langaville, Teka Matsepane, says people should learn to buy tickets on time and follow the stadium security process.
“It was announced three weeks before the game the tickets were sold out.
“I fail to understand why people go to the stadium even when they know they don’t have tickets.
“If the stadium is made to carry a certain number of people and tickets are all sold out then this means the stadium will be full to capacity.
“Buying illegal tickets puts your life and other fans in danger,” he says.
Teka says, as football supporters, they are calling on law enforcement to arrest anyone found with an illegal ticket anywhere near the stadium.
“We cannot continue losing lives because people are selfish.
“As the Langaville Kaizer Chiefs Branch, we are sending our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who passed away and wish a speedy recovery to those who were rushed to hospital,” he says.
Pirates supporter Rangwane Makgabutlane says they are calling on management to improve the security at the stadiums, especially during big games.
“Tickets must be scanned away from the stadiums even if it means we have to pay more for park-and-ride buses.
“The safety of the supporter must come first and no one must lose their lives like this.
“We are pleading with the supporters to stop buying fake tickets,” he says.
