KwaThema Karate Team crowned SA champions

KwaThema karate team is proud of its fighters for representing the province with diligence.

KwaThema – The KwaThema Karate Team was named South African Champions during the National Championship in the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in Cape Town Friday and Saturday.

The team made KwaThema and Gauteng proud when they walked away with gold medals.

“Siyabonga Mtyali received a gold medal in kata and bronze in kumite in the u-18 junior section.

“Sipho Mtshali received two bronze medals in kata and kumite in the junior section.

“David Touch More received gold in the kumite challenge and silver in kata in the senior section,” says Elliot Sinqo.

Elliot received bronze in kumite and kata.

Elliot says in the All Styles competition they received two bronze medals.

He says the team is grateful for the support is has been receiving from the community.

“We could not have made it this far if it wasn’t for the help of the community.

“Only this year we have achieved two black belts which is a big achievement for any karate sportsman.

“It takes hard work and training for one to achieve this.”

Elliot says they are encouraging people who are interested in joining the team to come forward.

“Anyone of any age can participate and start training in the sport.”
