Karate students get grading certificates

Duduza - Ferkkandos Karate Club hosted a grading ceremony at the Dunnottar Chance Children’s Home recently.

Six karate clubs from around Gauteng participated in the event.

Coach Linda Ngubane says they are calling on parents to encourage their children to participate in any form of sport.

“Sport helps them to be disciplined and stay away from the streets and from committing crime,” he says.

Linda is encouraging business people to adopt sporting codes in the area.

“We are not generating any income in the sport and we often can’t afford to travel to tournaments in other areas because of the lack of funds.

“If community members and business people were involved this wouldn’t be the case.

“We are pleading with them to be actively involved in making a difference in the community,” he says.

Branch chief of Kyokushinkan, Collen Sidwaba, said, “We are happy that there are children who are taking on interest in sport.

“In our team we have children from orphanages in the area.

“We are not only teaching them self-defence but also self-discipline and respect.

“Karate teaches participants about the ups and downs of life. You can’t always win all the battles, but you don’t give up.

“You continue practising to better your skills, to be better at what you do.

“We are also encouraging others to join in the sport,” he says.
