Focussed on gold

KwaThema - Moeketsi Moagi (47), of Linda Athletics Club, says just like last year, he plans to bring back two gold medals from the South African Masters Championship, which will be held in Cape Town next week.

Moagi, who will be taking part in the steeplechase 3 000 and 10 000m, says he has been training only for the gold.

“I am confident in my preparation for the championships. I am ready,” he adds.

He also represented South Africa in Australia last year where he won a silver medal.

Moagi will also be receiving national colours, on the 6th, from the Department of Sport to honour him for his participation in athletics over the years.

“I’m grateful to receive such an honour and I’m encouraged to do more.”

He says he wants to represent the nation in the international games later this year in Italy.

“I want to focus my all attention on development. These children need me to mentor them,” he adds.

Moagi says that most of the youngsters he coaches do not come from families that can financially support their dreams of becoming great athletes, but he is committed to making it happen.

“I work for a great company that not only gives me time off when I have competitions, they also sponsor most of the equipment I use.”

The community of Rest In Peace has organised a fun walk to celebrate Moagi’s success.

The walk took place on May 1 and started at BuliThando Park at 7am.
