Choose a healthy lifestyle

KwaThema - Locals are encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle by joining an athletics club in the new year.

Team captain of the KwaThema Striders Athletics Club, Mzimkhulu Ngubeni, says, “We urge our residents to join us or any other athletics teams, so that they can start adopting a healthier lifestyle.

“Running is one of the best and most effective ways of keeping healthy and in shape.”

Ngubeni says their team comprises three divisions.

The development team accommodates members from 10 to 21 years old.

The youth team consists of young people between the ages of 22 and 35.

The adults team includes men and women from age 36 and upwards.

“We encourage residents, especially men, to start making better choices about their health and to make exercise a part of their lifestyle.

“They can start by walking for four to eight kilometres daily and then move on to a walking and running routine which will give them the confidence to run,” he says.

The Striders meet for their team run on Saturday mornings at 5am, where they accommodate all distances.

During the week, training for beginners takes place at Bulitando Park from 6am to 8am and between 4pm and 6pm.
