KwaThema Striders join thousands at Soweto Marathon

KwaThema – As thousands of runners joined in the Soweto Marathon, so did some of Kwatsaduza’s very own locals.

The KwaThema Striders had 22 of their athletes participating in the race.

“We competed in the Soweto Marathon as part of our preparations for the Two Oceans Marathon which will take place in Cape Town and the Comrades Marathon to be hosted in Durban next year.

“And though the race was challenging as the route had changed, we enjoyed it and did well as all our members completed the marathon in less than five hours,” says Striders athlete Sibongiseni Sikosana.

He adds that five of their athletes competed in the 21km while the rest boldly took on the 42km.

And completing this was a success for all the individuals and the team.

“The team currently has almost 50 members but we do invite all those who are interested to join us.

“We take athletes from 15 years old upwards within Ekurhuleni and meet on Saturdays from 5am, at the corner of Kgaswane and Manensa streets in KwaThema.

“People who are also interested in joining in to support us at marathons can contact us,” he says.
