KwaThema seniors represent at nationals

KwaThema - Age is nothing but a number for 20 seniors who recently represented Team Gauteng at the Golden Game in Limpopo.

These seniors from the KwaThema Society for the Aged were part of the team which moved from local to nationals, where they managed to come second place.

“Annually as KwaThema, we always have the highest number of representatives in the national team.

“And this year, though our number went down to 20 seniors making the cut, our seniors still performed well,” says centre manager Monica Kgoloane.

The seniors competed in numerous challenges, including kick and pass, ball relay, ring and stick, duck walk, goal shooting, rugby ball throwing, dress-up and the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m runs.

In some of these divisions the seniors participated as groups while in others they took on the challenges as individuals.

One of the seniors from the KwaThema team, Khosi Khumalo says she is happy with the way the entire team performed.

“We are all really happy and proud of our achievement as we did exceptionally well.

“These games have also helped in keeping us fit as we trained weekly and monthly for them, which meant we remained healthy.

“We also enjoy this as we are able to meet other people, rather than being stuck at home,” she says.

Khumalo encourages other seniors from around Kwatsaduza to ensure that they join and attend at service centres closest to them so the can exercise and take part in other activities.
