Teams invited to enter the Defy Ekurhuleni Games 2016

KwaThema – Local sports teams are invited to register to participate in the upcoming Defy Ekurhuleni Games 2016.

The tournament, hosted by the Ekurhuleni Goodwill Committee in conjunction with the Local Football Association, will take place from December 16 to 30.

“This December sports tournament will take place at the KwaThema Sports Complex.

“We therefore invite soccer open teams, masters teams of players from 35 years upwards, Springs Local Football Association (SLFA) u/15 teams and netball open teams to enter and participate in the festivities,” says coach Mkhonzana ‘Skhesh’ Mkhonza of the SLFA.

Ekurhuleni Goodwill Committee member Mosala Mofokeng adds that the games are aimed at keeping young and old busy, off the streets, active and promote sports in December.

It will further be an opportunity for scouts to come and see the talent of the local senior soccer players.

Prizes up for grabs during these games will include:

Senior soccer teams

• First place will win R80 000, trophy, gold medals and kit.

• Second place will be awarded R50 000, silver medals and kit.

• Third place will walk away with R20 000 and bronze medals.

Master soccer teams

• First place will win R10 000, trophy, gold medals and kit.

• Second place will be awarded R7 000, silver medals and kit.

• Third place will walk away with R3 000 and bronze medals.

u/15 soccer teams

• First place will win trophy, gold medals and kit.

• Second place will be awarded silver medals and kit.

• Third place will walk away with bronze medals.

Netball teams

• First place will win R7 000, trophy, gold medals and kit.

• Second place will be awarded R5 000, silver medals and kit.

• Third place will walk away with R3 000 and bronze medals.

Registration for all teams wishing to participate in the games closes on December 5.

Games will then officially be launched on December 10, though the venue has not yet been confirmed.
