Aerobics to keep fit

KwaThema – Her quest to lose weight after her pregnancy introduced her to aerobics and, years later, she leads her own aerobics class at the KwaThema Community Hall.

Thuli Twala, the founder of Passion Fitness Gym, is on a quest to promote healthy living to the community through fitness training.

It’s been only two months since she started her gym, but she says it gives her joy that people have been very responsive and she is currently instructing 24 people on a daily basis.

Twala holds classes from Monday to Thursday, from 6pm to 7pm.

She credits her former instructor with helping her to become the good instructor she is today.

“When I started doing aerobics I was quick at catching the different routines and styles, forcing me to take over my late instructor’s classes, which is where my love for aerobics accelerated,” she explains.

“I didn’t have any formal training; everything I do with my students is what I’ve learned in the years I have been involved in the sport, doing training that the metro gives to us as instructors,” she explains.

She elaborates that even though she is able to train people every day, she lacks equipment to make her sessions more fun and efficient.

“We are in need of some gym equipment, such as dumbbells, steps and gym mats.

“These are the things I want to make available for my students going forward, as my dream is to have my own space where I can have my fully fledged gym,” says Twala.

Anyone is welcome to be a part of the gym; she welcomes young and old, male and female.

“I’m passionate about fitness training; it rewards me to help others, especially my fellow sisters, to achieve their fitness goals with my help,” she adds.
