Local boxers shine at tournament

Tsakane – Three boxers from the Total Success Boxing Club participated in the Gauteng Development Tournament over the weekend.

The spectacle was hosted at the Witpoortjie Vikings Boxing Club on Saturday.

Coach Lwazi Xundu explains that the tournament was meant for boxers between the ages of eight to 17 years old and 24 clubs were present.

From the Total Success Boxing Club three boxers, Kwanele Nkabinde (17), Vuyo Mnguni (12) and Bongani Nzima (12), went to compete.

From these three boxers only two boxers were able to fight.

“Nkabinde had gotten an opponent, however he could not fight as his opponent was overweight.

“Nzima on the other hand, fought against William Kleinhans (12) from the Witpoortjie Vikings Boxing Club and was able to win by technical knockout in the second round.

“Mnguni also won on technical knockout in his first round, in his fight against Ntando Ratshilunela (12) from Champions Boxing Club,” he adds.

Xundu says he is very happy with the success of his boys.

“My motto in life is that we must not deal with problems when they are already there, but must tackle them before they happen.

“Therefore, when these young people are in sports, their chances of getting involved in crime are slim.

“We continue to appeal to parents, to not remove children from sports, as that is where we are able to teach them discipline, how to dream and other life skills from a young age,” he says.
