Local coaches qualify

Kwatsaduza – Five local coaches recently took the initiative to improve their coaching skills, by undergoing a 10-day coaching workshop to secure their Confederation of African Football (CAF) C licences, under the South African Football Association (SAFA) Ekurhuleni.

Themba Ntuli, Christian Xaba, Lebohang Lebese, Mphikeleli Shabangu and Musa Makua are qualified CAF C licence holders; all they have left to do is implement their knowledge on the pitch.

Xaba explains the training as imperative for all coaches in the community, because it teaches coaches a lot about the sport, helps with developing players and raises the standards and quality of local players.

“The training was very detailed and informative, covering different topics that are crucial to coach a team,” he says.

“Some of the topics covered were methods of coaching, components of coaching, team management, game analysis, laws of the game and practical field sessions.”

To upgrade to a CAF B licence the coaches will have to coach for another eight to 12 months, keeping records of their portfolio work and teams, after which they may continue to obtain their professional licence.

“We, as young and upcoming coaches, believe that, with all these courses standardised by SAFA in conjunction with CAF, our country will once again begin to export great quality players, as we used to in the past,” adds Xaba.
