Junior Spinners crowned champs

KwaThema - Junior Spinners FC were crowned the u/11 champions in the 2015/16 Springs Local Football League.

The team had been gunning for champion status for the past two seasons, only managing to secure the second position.

Team coach Nthate Mawane says he is ecstatic that his players committed themselves to getting the number one position this time around.

“I was pleased with the team’s effort and soccer skills throughout the league. We knew we were going to be champions three games before the season ended because we were far ahead with points,” he says.

Mawane says his secret to having such skilled young players is simply his form of training, saying he focuses on ball work as opposed to soccer techniques that other coaches teach their players.

“For the younger players it’s important to teach them ball work so they master handling the ball and also know their positions on the field,” says the coach.

Team captain Tshigo Makgabutlane outshone his mates by scoring 18 goals throughout the season, making him the player of the season.

Currently the club is busy training in preparation for the upcoming season where they want to maintain their status as champions and win the league again.
