RDP off to finals

KwaThema – Tensions where high when RDP thrashed Deep Level 4-1 on their home ground last Sunday in the Siyadlala tournament semi-final round.

The win has secured RDP a place in the finals where they will take on Tsakane on August 7.

From the minute the referee blew the whistle it was evident that both teams were gunning for the spot in the final.

With the intensity and momentum building up, shots on target were missed by RDP players wanting to utilise every goal-scoring opportunity.

Nonetheless the first stanza ended in goalless.

Going into the second half RDP came onto the pitch ready to score goals that would put them ahead.

Just minutes into the half Thabo Mabena registered the first goal for RDP which made the crowd cheer on the team.

After many attempts to get the ball behind the net Deep Level were granted a penalty kick, taken by Xoli Mathinjwa, which equalised.

Moments after the penalty, RDP’s Madoda Mgezani scored the second goal for his side, followed by another goal from him later in the game.

Deep Level fans were not too pleased by their team losing, complaining about the referee’s style of judging.

To further extend the lead, Jacky Maseko netted the final goal for RDP to end the match.

RDP will take on Tsakane in the finals for the Siyadlala Cup after Verbal Warning lost 4-3 to Tsakane in the penalty round.
