Kubheka feeling grateful

KwaThema - For Zest player, Zanele Kubheka, making it to the nationals has been a great honour in her netball career.

This comes after the 19-year-old recently represented the province in Cape Town.

The youngster’s journey began last year as she started competing at local tournaments, which soon saw her rise up and be selected to represent Kwatsaduza, go to regionals and move through all the way to nationals.

“When I made it to the final selection, which awarded me the opportunity to be part of the squad representing the province at nationals, I was thrilled,” she says.

And having spent a week away she says the experience was awesome.

“It was great and I learnt a lot though I was unable to move on further, due to being admitted to hospital.

“The most important lesson for me was that I need to be more confident in myself and train harder, since I want to continue with the sport even after my matric year,” she confesses.

The Grade 12 learner said: “I thank God, my coach Girly Mnguni, trainer Bheki Mdakane, the team, family, councillor Dorah Mlambo, school staff and all the local business people for their support and help in making my dream to nationals a success.”

Coach Girly Mnguni congratulated her player for making it that far saying she was proud as Kubheka had done extremely well under the circumstances.

“She performed exceptionally well and I truly believe she could have gone even further had she not fallen ill.

“She is a dedicated, passionate and hardworking player who listens when spoken to.

“Therefore with her commitment, I know next year she will definitely go far,” she says.

Mnguni thanks everyone who supported the young girl, especially her family, saying she hopes other families will do the same as through sports young people are off the streets and are able to further their education through scholarships.
