A good attempt from Mtshali

Geluksdal – It was a proud moment for Malibongwe Mtshali (13) and his family when he was granted the opportunity to trial for the Orlando Pirates development team in Mayfair, Johannesburg, recently.

It was only in the second leg of the trials that he was cut off but that didn’t kill his dream of becoming a professional football player.

According to his mother, Nonhlanhla Mtshali he didn’t make it through into the u/13 team because of his height, but the scouts did commend him for his football skills.

“I’m proud of my son. He really has what it takes to be a professional footballer. I will continue to support his talent until he reaches his full potential,” says the mother.

The young striker who plays for the Pollak Park Youngsters football club and his school, Werda Primary School, says being part of the trials has made him more enthusiastic about his future in football.

“In future I want to teach other young boys in the community how to play soccer and also get into coaching,” says the young lad.

He looks up to local and international strikers, such as Tendai Ndoro of Orlando Pirates and Luis Suarez of Barcelona.

“I want to be as good if not better than them as I grow in football,” he adds.
