Langaville thrash Mamellong

Kwatsaduza – Langaville Secondary School pounded Mamellong Comprehensive School in an u/19 rugby match played on Friday afternoon.

The two schools clashed at the sports complex in KwaThema, in preparation for the start of the winter games.

As the match commenced, Langaville capitalised on swinging the ball, to distract their opponents and this move seemed to work to their advantage as Tumelo Mashinini was about to score the opening try which put his team at five points.

However, he missed the conversion pass which could have seen his team gaining an extra two points to extend their lead.

A few minutes later and Mamellong obtained a penalty which awarded Mandlakhe Mahlangu an opportunity where he was able to score a try and conversion which sneaked his team into the lead by seven points before half-time.

The first half ended on a 7-5 score line with Mamellong taking the lead.

As the second half began it was evident that Langaville were more hungry to taste the lead again.

This led Clement Raphasa of Langaville to put his name on the board, with the first try of the second half for his team.

Shortly after that and Katlego Segano scored another try which extended the points of Langaville by another five points.

Mamellong’s defense was really tested at this point of the game, which was getting more intense as the minutes went by.

Langaville continued to make their presence felt on the field with Xoliswa Poni registering the third try for this half, which was soon followed by a conversion pass by Banele Sibaya.

The final score saw Langaville end the match on a 22-7 victory against Mamellong.

Cluster coordinator Tebogo Mochabo shares that this was the beginning of the schools league and preparation to the start of the winter games organised by the Gauteng Department of Education.

“This school league for the Gauteng East District, called Vuka Rugby League, will run until August and we have eight schools that are competing in the u/15, u/17 and u/19 games.

“From there we need to select a squad to represent us at the Valke Rugby Union for the Qawe Week, to be hosted in October where 14 rugby unions/regions will compete,” he says.
