Local boxing tournament a success

Tsakane – A boxing tournament was held at the Duduza Multi Purpose Centre over the weekend, to help the different clubs to get acquainted and to encourage locals to support the sport.

The event hosted by the Bigger Walker Boxing Club ama Eagle, from Tsakane Extension 19, also provided local boxers with an opportunity to learn more about the sport, its rules, how to be disciplined and different techniques they can use when fighting in matches.

“The tournament went well and we are thankful to the Kwatsaduza community and clubs who were present to support this initiative.

“Thank you also to all boxing officials from Ekurhuleni who availed themselves to help in the development of our children,” says founder and coach of Bigger Walker Boxing Club Charles Mtshali.

He adds that such tournaments show that the sport has the potential to grow locally and emphasises that he wishes to see more clubs developing in the area.

“I encourage parents to allow their children to join the sport so that they can at least have something positive to do.

“There are various clubs around Kwatsaduza which young people can join.

“Those who reside close to the Tsakane Mall can go to the Total Success Boxing Club, youth of KwaThema can join Geo Maroon, Scorpion or Mila High boxing clubs and aspiring boxers close to Tsakane Extension 19 can come to Bigger Walker Boxing Club,” Mtshali says.
