Promoting development of football

KwaThema - Football stakeholders are invited to attended the upcoming Springs Local Technical meeting.

According to organisers, this gathering is aimed at addressing technical issues regarding development of the sport in the area.

“As the Local Football Association, which is the main custodian of football in Springs, we are inviting football social clubs, church teams, masters leagues, legends, school district football, five-a-side leagues, industrial leagues and all other football structures who want to belong to a structure to attend this meeting.

“This is to encourage all football structures to belong to the association, so it can be uniformly controlled, regulated and structured.

“The meeting will be hosted at the offices of the Springs Local Football Association, at the KwaThema Sports Complex, on April 30, at 9am,” says the regional technical officer of SAFA Ekurhuleni, coach Innocent Mayoyo.

Some of the issues to be addressed on the day’s agenda include the state of football locally, local football structures, formation of squads, coaching workshops and registration of associate members.

The local technical officer of KwaThema, coach Joseph ”Skheshe” Mkhonzana, adds that this meeting is aimed at ensuring that they revive local football for the betterment of the community, so that they can put Springs back where it formerly was regarding the sport.

“When I used to play professional football we used to have more than 40 players from our township playing for different teams in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), so we want things to go back to the way they were,” he explains.
