Skoomboys take three points

Tsakane - Skoomboys walked away victorious after their win against Highland on Sunday.

The two sides went head to head in a Tsamaya League match that was played at the Malandela Grounds in Tsakane.

As the game began it was unclear which side was dominating the field, but after about 20 minutes Skoomboys player Pule Mphahlele put his name on the scoresheet with the opening goal for the day.

About five minutes after that, the referee called for a penalty as the ball had hit the hand of one of Highland’s players while he was in the 18 area.

The tactical move of keeper Njabulo Zulu of Highland managed to keep the ball out of the net. However, the referee called for a retake of the shot, as he claimed the keeper had moved before the whistle blew.

Highland players were not pleased with this decision and disputed the referee’s call.

As Kenneth Nthengethwa of Skoomboys took the second penalty shot, he was able to extend the lead of his team with the second goal.

At half-time Skoomboys had managed to maintain the lead, with a score of 2-0.

In the second half Highland came back into the game with more fight in them as they had numerous attempts at shots which were on target, but it was just not their day as most of these shots just ended with the ball hitting the poles.

As their frustrations built up, some of Highland‘s players failed to keep to their positions, which made it hard for them to come back into the game and score.

Skoomboys also failed at making any additional goals in this half, leaving them with a 2-0 score.
