Sanders United walk away with three points

KwaThema - Sanders United beat Early Birds 4-2 in an u/17 match that was played at the KwaThema Sports Complex, on Sunday morning.

The first half saw Tumelo Pome, of Sanders United, scoring his opening goal of the match within the first 10 minutes of the game.

Early Birds then tried to tighten their defence, hoping not to see another goal getting past their defenders, but the thrilling strike from Pome led him to extend the lead of his team to 2-0, as he scored his second goal 25 minutes into the first half.

After that Sanders United tightened the defence on their back line to ensure that their opponents did not score in this half.

As teams went off the pitch at half time, the scoreboard remained at 2-0.

Advice from the Early Birds coach seemed to have helped in boosting the spirits of the boys as, straight into the second half, Awethu Petela put his team on the score sheet with their first goal of the day.

Fearing that the opposition would soon catch up, the unstoppable Pome extended the lead with his third goal.

Game momentum stabilised for a few minutes, until Sanders United’s Thabiso Mokoena utilised a ball passed to him by his teammates 12 minutes before game ended, to give the team a 4-1 lead.

Early Birds’ Dumisani Ndawonde scored the last goal of the day for Early Birds after a penalty shot was ruled by the referee, two minutes before the final whistle blew.
