Karate lovers invited to tournament

KwaThema – The KwaThema Shotokan Karate Club will be hosting a development tournament on February 27 at the KwaThema HH Ngakane Hall at the Civic Centre.

According to Shihan Michael Cindi of the club, this will be the second year that they will be hosting such a contest.

“This will be our biggest tournament thus far, as the last time we had another one of its kind in the area, it was in 1983 as the Nischiyama Karate Club had visitors from America who came to participate in a friendly match.

“Through this initiative, our aim is to develop young people, to return karate back to its former glory in the township and to encourage parents to allow their children to join this sport,” he says.

He adds that the upcoming tournament will have three formats (styles) which will include general, full contact and koshiki karate.

“We encourage all the International Koshiki Karate Organisation clubs to come and participate in this tournament.

“It would also be a great honour for us to have all instructors, especially those from Tsakane and Duduza and all karate veterans.

“Teams who will be coming are welcome to bring their young ones from the age of six to 17 years old to participate,” he says.

The festivities will run from 9am to 6pm. For more information, interested clubs can contact Shihan Michael Cindi on 073 212 9444 or Alfred Mkhondwane on 073 244 1791.
