Upcoming chess tournament

Duduza – The Chess Development, in partnership with Sixty Bottle Store, will soon present the Thabo Motlebeng Local Individual Chess League, which is set to kick start on March 12.

The league will cater for three divisions including the u/13, u/15 and u/17.

“This league is the first programme that we are venturing into, as we want to see our children in the township kept busy in a positive way and off the streets.

“We have seen that there are some children in our areas who are not participating in any extra mural activities after school or during school holidays, hence we encourage them to enter for this league.

Chess is great because it will help challenge them mentally, at school and in their decision making,” says the founder of Chess Development, Thabo Nkwane.

Though registration has kicked off, it will close on March 4, as the league is due to officially start on March 12.

Nkwane adds that it is only the first sixteen registered participants who will be able to take part in the league.

Late registrations however, will be penalised by losing of the games already played.

“All young people still wishing to register can go to 3683 Lopeng Street in Duduza and they should take with a copy of their birth certificate and two colour ID copies.

“They will also need to fill in the organisation registration form.

“At the moment, the league will only be open to young people of Duduza, however the team hopes to expand to other areas in the future,” he says.

For more information interested candidates can contact Thabo Nkwane on 076 638 7830 or email thobejane71@gmail.com.

Self applications or registration will be highly appreciated.
