Match cancelled after foul play

KwaThema - Last Sunday the SAB League match between Ace Auto Ayoba and Alex United was cancelled after the first half after allegations that the referee had been bribed.

The league match that took place at the KwaThema Stadium left spectators disappointed and angry.

“We came to watch a fair game of football and now we learn that referees are being bribed,” says Mandla Nkosi, an angry supporter.

According to Innocent Mayoyo, technical director of Ace Auto Ayoba, the referee who was initially appointed to ref was stopped by the bribed referee from coming to the match.

“When the other referees produced their SMSs that stipulated that they were appointed to judge the match, one couldn’t produced the SMS.

“So we came to an agreement that if, by the end of the first half, he still failed to show that he was supposed to judge, the match would be cancelled no matter what the score was,” says Mayoyo.

Alex United was leading 2-0 in the first half.

Mayoyo says he is doing everything in his power to make sure that the law takes its course regarding this matter of corruption in the league.

“I will make sure that people are held accountable.

“This angers me because they are killing the game of development football, which is crucial for the aspiring professional soccer player.

“It must come to an end,” say the angry Mayoyo.
