Black belt second dan for Ngubane

Tsakane – Sensei Linda Ngubane (43) from Tsakane obtained a second dan on his karate black belt over the weekend.

This came after the Gauteng Kyokushinkan Branch under Ranchi Shihan Colleen Sedwaba and Sensei James Sithole conducted a graduation at Katlehong’s Sijabulile Secondary School.

According to Ngubane to get a black belt one is tested on knowledge of the sport, how they fight, fitness, techniques, cutters (movement) and are also required to fight with 20 people in a day, which he managed to do successfully.

He adds he obtained his first black belt dan in 2004.

“Because of my love of the development of children and love of the sport, last year I started training children from my home, and now I have 15 children who are training with me and all of them have graded and all have different belts.

“In March I moved them from my home to start with training at Buhlebemfundo Secondary School.

“I encourage other young people to join us and wish that the municipality will give us space when we ask for it, as a classroom is not big enough for this kind of sport,” Ngubane says.

He encourages parents to allow their children to take up karate as a sport as he says its teaches them discipline, respect, helps them in their academics, self defence and for them not to be violent.

The team trains from the school on Monday to Friday, from 5.30pm to 7pm and on Saturdays from 8.30am to 11.30am and anyone from the age of six to pensioners is welcome.
