Young player off to trials

Tsakane - Banele ''Messi'' Nkosi has secured a spot at the Transnet SAFA School of Excellence camp, which commenced on December 1, in Elandsfontein.

The 13-year-old boy has made his Tsakane football club, Dovola United FC, proud by making it into the second leg of the trials.

Nkosi didn’t get his nickname by mistake, but because he is nothing less than a soccer star.

“He is a brilliant player, who will sure amaze soccer coaches and fans in future,” boasts his coach, Mxolisi Guntu.

Nkosi attended the first leg of the trials in August, and was chosen to be part of the camp.

“I’m happy that my hard work has paid off and I hope I will be accepted into the school, so I can hone my soccer skills,” he says.

He currently plays the position of wing attack on the field and is said to be a young Messi in the making.

“My role model is Lionel Messi of Barcelona; I really want to reach his levels in terms of a football career.

“I believe I have what it takes to be where he is today,” says Nkosi.

Should Nkosi make it through the camp, he will be afforded the chance to study at the Transnet SAFA School of Excellence.

“This will mean a lot to him and other young local players who dream of becoming soccer giants,” says Guntu.
