For the love of the game

Kwatsaduza - It was a sad day for Orlando Pirates and their supporters on Saturday when they were beaten 6-5 on penalties by Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Knock-Out Cup semi-final.

The teams played at the FNB Stadium and both sides were ready to prove who would come out top in the second Soweto derby, which was played over two consecutive weekends.

“It was a bad day for Pirates, however, the boys played well till the end in the two Soweto derbies against Kaizer Chiefs.

“During the first week in the league match we managed to beat them 3-1, but they beat us in the penalty shoot-out.

“The match was tough and we ended up going to extra time and luck was just not on our side,” says Orlando Pirates supporter, Rangwane Makgabutlane, from the Springs supporters branch.

He says both teams capitalised on their opponents mistakes, hence they lost fair and square.

Makgabutlane adds that they thank the support they received from both clubs and that Pirates will continue preparing for their final in Africa, to prove themselves to the country.

Busisiwe Mabhayi Maseko, from the Nigel Kaizer Chiefs supporters branch, says they are happy with the win.

“We are looking forward to winning the Telkom trophy and the money.

“Pirates must just focus on their Africa games and we will focus on winning the cups games here at home.

“Let us continue supporting each other because we are not enemies, our fight just lasts for 90 minutes then afterwards we are friends again,” says Maseko.

Kaizer Chiefs will meet Sundowns in the Telkom Knock-Out final which will be played next month.
