Fifteen athletes to represent KwaThema

KwaThema - Over the weekend, 15 young people from the KwaThema Disabled Sports Club will participate in the Central Gauteng for the Disabled trials.

The trials will be hosted at the Germiston Stadium and should the team do well, they will qualify to compete in the Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled.

This comes after the 15 athletes took part in the first round of the trials on August 15 at the Germiston Stadium and all did well.

“We had 15 members take part in athletics, shot put and long jump and after their excellent performance, all of them made it through to the second round.

“If the team qualifies, they will go to Bloemfontein in March where they will compete in the Nedbank National Championships,” says chairperson of the KwaThema Disabled Sports Club, Aubrey Mathebela.

He says he wishes the entire team well and hopes they will all qualify for the next round as this will put them in good standing to be selected to South Africa’s Paralympic Games team.
