Simphiwe Thombela shines at nationals

KwaThema – Simphiwe Thombela (12), an extraordinary athlete from Ntokozweni Primary School, reached the top 10 at the national cross-country championship.

Thombela represented the Gauteng province in the national championship in East London on October 10.

The youngster took the ninth position and was awarded a bronze medal and a certificate for his sterling performance.

At the district cross-country championship, Thombela came in first in the u/12 boys section.

He then proceeded to the provincial level, where he again obtained the pole position. For his great performance, Thombela was awarded with two gold medals.

“We are very happy for Thombela and hope he can get a scholarship after doing so well and making it so far into the competition. He has made us very proud and we wish him well for the future,” says the school’s cross-country coordinator, Ntombi Nkabinde.
