GLFA champions get awards

Geluksdal - After a long first season for the Geluksdal Local Football Association (GLFA), the champion teams were given awards on Saturday.

The event, which was held at the Geluksdal Stadium, saw many players rejoicing in their victory.

Teams who took the first positions received gold medals and a trophy sponsored by a civil and construction company in Brakpan.

The u/11 champions are Local team needs new players, the u/13 and u/15 championship titles for the 2015/2016 season go to Dovola United, while the Brakpan Spears were crowned the u/17 champions.

Speaking on behalf of the GLFA, the association’s secretary, Mxolisi Guntu, says all the teams who played in the league showed great football skills on the pitch and, despite the fact that this was the first GLFA League, winning was not easy for the champions.

“All the teams in the league played the best football, each fighting for victory,” says Guntu, adding that the GLFA’s executive members are proud of the soccer talent displayed by the local players.

He says it is the association’s dream to develop such talent, so that one day it can be recognised by the world.

To ensure that soccer does not die in the township while the league is over, teams are taking part in friendly games at weekends, at the Geluksdal Stadium, until February, when the next season starts.
