Karate club instils discipline

KwaThema- The Mtshali Karate Club hosted a youth programme at the KwaThema soup kitchen, during the school holidays.

The club, which trains young and older karate students, invited the youth of KwaThema to come and explore the sport.

Obed Nkosi (66), a karate instructor, says they want to educate young people about the sport and also teach them about self-discipline.

“Karate is a good choice of sport, especially for young people who are still growing up, it teaches them principles and discipline,” says Nkosi.

The trainers expressed their gratitude to all the children who participated in the programme, explaining that they did more than just teach karate, but also engaged the youth through dialogue on peer pressure and substance abuse.

Kamogelo Nkonoane (16), is a karate student and says the club has taught him how to manage his time and helped to guide him with his life choices.

“I would encourage young people to come and be a part of our club, because we are not only taught karate, but other life skills, too,” he adds.

Elliot Sinqo (58) added that they appreciate the parents who continuously bring their children to karate practise and play an active role in the club.

The Mtshali club will continue to host these holiday classes during every school term break.
