Bongani Zungu hosts tournament

Duduza - Last Saturday, the Bongani Zungu Winter Football Tournament took place at the Bluegumview Grounds, in Mandela Street.

Spectators came out in their numbers to see who the tournament champions would be.

Bongani Zungu (22), who plays for Premier Soccer League (PSL) football club Sundowns, hails from Duduza and he started the tournament so he could develop other young stars like him.

Zungu explained that he wants stadiums in the townships to be full again and to get youngsters involved in soccer.

Teams from around Ekurhuleni and other areas participated in the tournament.

Duduza’s very own team, Regal, took on Bushbuckridge-based TNG Academy in the u/20 knock-out stage.

The match was enthusiastically anticipated by many locals who came to watch the tournament.

Regal did Duduza proud, winning 4-2 against TNG Academy, after an interesting match.

The pace of the match was set by Regal, who scored the first two goals in the first half, putting TNG Academy under pressure to up their game.

TNG managed to get a goal in before the first half ended.

In the second half, Duduza Regal proved to want more and managed to net two more goals, while TNG scored only one more.
