On the right track to win

Kwatsaduza athletics club members are training hard to prepare for their upcoming races.

According to the club’s chairman, Sparks Moagi (46), more than 20 athletes are preparing for the start of the cross country season, which kicks off in Delta Park, Johannesburg, from next month.

Moagi says club athlete Thabo Masina (16) recently placed second in the junior category of the SA Provincial Championships, in Bloemfontein, where he completed a distance of 3km.

“His victory opened doors for him to participate in a junior event in Columbia towards the end of the year,” he says.

Moagi will be competing in the South African Masters Athletics Championships on May 15, in Port Elizabeth.

He explains that he qualified after placing first in an event in Germiston, last Saturday.

Moagi appeals for the support of the young athletes’ parents, as well as the community at large.

“We need the support from home to ensure that we put the name of Kwatsaduza on the list of the townships known for producing the best runners,” Moagi concludes.
