Mqoqwa attains bronze

Professional athlete Prison Mqoqwa recently participated in the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, that took place around the Cape Peninsula.

Prison (55), a Duduza resident, is a member of the Striders Athletic Club in Springs, where he regularly trains.

He explains he was happy to be one of the athletes who took part in the race, and worked hard in preparation.

“The time and practice I put in did eventually pay off,” says Prison.

He achieved a time of 6.30:05 in the 56km race, which put him in the top 30 overall.

Prison plans on beating his time next year.

His interest in long distance running started in 1991, and he has since participated in many races, such as the Vaal Marathon and Durban Ultra Marathon.

He wishes that more young people from Kwataduza were interested in marathon running.

Prison says his love for long distance running has taught him patience and consistency, and it has also made him more focused and driven in life.

He adds running keeps his body in great shape and he does not have health problems.

Prison’s biggest fans are his family.

He says they are always supportive and encourage him to to his best.

Prison is currently preparing for the Birchwood Half Marathon, which will take place in Boksburg, on April 12.
