Smangele’s grading fight

Smangele Hadebe (21) is the first woman to start boxing at KwaThema's Geo Maroon Boxing Club.

She recently joined the club after she followed her love for boxing and started to box in May last year.

Smangele said her love for this sport started after she has already tried other sports but did not fall in love with them.

While others see boxing as a rough sport, Smangele sees it as one of the sports that keeps her focused.

“I found my passion in boxing,” said Smangele.

She motivated the young girls in the townships to consider boxing as the sport that they can get involved in and maybe make a career out of.

To ensure her growth in this sport, Smangele will be fighting a grading fight on March 4 in Alberton in order to qualify as an amateur woman boxer.

Coach and the founder of Geo Maroon Boxing Club, Themba Zulu said he has no doubt that Smangele will be ready for her important fight.

“Winning the grading fight will open doors for her to many fights where she will be granted many opportunities to prove that she is one of the best female fighters in the country,” concluded Zulu.
