The new girls of Ayoba

The Ayoba-Yo Youth Soccer Academy has new girls who have just joined the team's family.

Mpumelelo Lekgau and Phila Mahlangu play at the KwaThema Sports Complex every weekend.

Because the Springs Local Football Association (SLFA) does not have a girls’ soccer tournament yet, the two girls play in the boys’ teams.

Phila is a right wing player while Mpumelelo is a middle fielder.

They say they chose to play soccer after realising their love for this sport.

“Before playing soccer, I played other sports which I later lost interest in while my love for soccer developed,” said Phila.

She said she joined Ayoba to ensure that her talent is being polished so that it can shine for the world to recognise.

Mpumelelo said she joined the academy knowing that the academy does not have an U/15 girls’ team.

“Challenging the boys on the field gives me encouragement to train hard and ensure that I always stay focused during the game,” said Mpumelelo.

She concluded by inviting other young girls who have a love for soccer to join the teams in the township and have confidence every time they do what they do best on the pitch.
