SLFA talks football

The Springs Local Football Association (SLFA) says its vision is to develop soccer in the townships.

The SLFA has 89 registered teams that play at the KwaThema Sports Complex every weekend.

According to the association’s secretary Ace Mashalaba there are U/11, U/13, U/15, U/17, super division and premier division teams.

When asked about the performance of the teams last year, Mashalaba confirmed that it was a difficult time for the players.

“All the teams showed dedication and were eager to be crowned the winners when the season ends,” said Mashalaba,

He then encouraged the coaches of the teams to work hard to ensure the development of soccer in the townships.

He said one of their plans is to visit the local schools to encourage learners to be involved in sport.

“We want to see sport grow in the townships,” he said.

He explained that the SLFA games will start again from January 17 except for the U/11 proper league games that will start on January 24.

The SLFA offices at the KwaThema Sports Complex are open on Monday to Friday from 9am until 3.30pm.
