Sport festival for young players

Primary school learners involved in sport spent a day at KwaThema Sports Complex on Saturday taking part in a sports festival.

The festival was organised by Black Child It’s Possible, an organisation that deals with motivating and encouraging the youth to focus of achieving their dreams in partnership with Carnival City.

On the day, Masimini, Msobomvu, Sakhelwe and Tsimong primary schools in KwaThema took part in the festival playing soccer, rugby and cricket.

Event organiser, Billy Bhembe who is also a motivational speaker said the festival was aimed at encouraging the primary school learners to be involved in sport.

He said his organisation mainly focuses on giving back hope and supporting the children with no parents.

“The festival is another way of getting close to the orphans and pushing them to fulfil their dreams of making it in sport,” said Bhembe.

Bhembe promised that his company will host the festival again next year.

“We are aiming at having more high schools and adding more sporting codes next year,” said Bhembe.

Ntokozo Phahlane, a Grade Five learner at Masimini Primary School and a cricket player, said she started to play cricket this year.

She said her love for cricket started when she was first introduced to it at the beginning of the year by her coach at school.

“I love cricket and want to see myself playing on a professional level one day,” said Ntokozo.

She said the festival helped her and her team-mates to measure their ability to compete with other teams while also learning new tricks from the other players.
