Bad pitch condition discourages young stars

The bad condition of the local soccer ground discourages the up-and-coming soccer stars in Bacelorna section in KwaThema.

The field is divided into two; where on the one side green grass is growing and needs proper maintenance while on the other side of the pitch, not far from the poles, is a huge but shallow hole which gets filled with water after the rain.

Frustrated coach, Mdaiko Ngubane said the state of the ground is the reason why his club Bacelorna All Nations died after doing well in the Springs Local Football Association (SLFA) league about three years ago.

He said the players felt discouraged after they were forced to use that field for their training sessions which most of the time resulted in them getting injuries when training.

“The players were getting hurt every day when training on this ground because of its condition,” said Ngubane.

He said he is worried that the football talent in that section will die because nothing is encouraging the young boys to be involved in sport.

Ngubane added that the few boys that he is training also feel they are not taken seriously as he cannot even register them as a team to play again in the SLFA, fearing that they might drop out of the team due to struggling to find a proper place to train.

He is appealing to the metro for assistance to fix the ground.

“I am not asking for too much but only a grader to come and fix our ground and make it a proper ground where children can play their games and have their training sessions.”

One of the boys, Katlego Zuma (14), confirmed that his passion for soccer is slowly dying because of the challenge of getting a proper training ground.

He said it has been his wish to have a soccer team to represent Bacelorna.

“The way to fulfilling our dreams of playing for a national team seems to be very narrow and blocked by the challenges that can be overcome if the metro helps us,” sadly said Katlego.
