Local athletes get a donation

Joseph Mkolo (47) from Tsakane dreams of ensuring that the township produces more athletes.

Mkolo formed the Vigo Athletics Club in May last year with the aim of producing the best athletes in Kwatsaduza while also promoting a healthy life style.

He says he formed the club because he is also an athlete and wants to ensure that the young athletes get a chance to have their talent seen by the community while also promoting sport in the township.

After many months of struggling to get sponsorships, about 25 athletes had to run in many competitions bare foot.

However, things have changed for the best for the club after they recently received a sponsorship from The Legends Athletics Club that donated 25 pairs of running shoes and socks.

“The club also donated a laptop and a printer to our club for a better management of a club,” said Mkolo.

He encouraged his club’s athletes to stay away from drugs and other things that might destroy their future.

“To be a successful athlete takes discipline and hard work,” he said.

He then thanked the club for the donation and promised that his athletes will continue to do well in all the competitions that they will be taking part in.
