Parents get involved

Showing love and support

Management of Valencia held a parents’ meeting before playing their U/13 regional soccer game on Saturday.

The team from KwaThema played against Intermilan from Duduza at the KwaThema Sports Complex.

The regional games consist of all the league champions in the different local football associations in Ekurhuleni.

Intermilan opened the scoring, with the goal coming from Mpumelelo Ndlovu in the second half.

With some of Valencia’s members playing in front of their parents for the first time, the boys refused to give up and levelled the score through a goal by Prince Nkosana.

The game ended with a draw.

Valencia coach, Modibe Taumang said this was the first time the team held a parents’ meeting.

“We wanted the parents to meet the team’s management, as the people who spend time and travel with their kids,” Modibe added.

He said the aim was to also encourage parents to come and watch their children play.

Modibe concluded by saying, “It helps when kids know they have support at home.”

One parent, Sindiswa Makaliwe, said she is aware that children have ‘extra more oomph’ and play to impress.

While Mubi Ntuli said she is happy about her grandson playing soccer, “He has dreams of making it big in soccer and I want to support him,” she added.
