Registration open for Striders’ race

The Springs Striders' 32/15km road race will take place on February 2.

According to club secretary Rhoda Steyn, they are expecting 1 500 athletes on the day.

Ladies Comrades gold medal winner Frith van der Merwe will be taking part in the 15km road race.

“Paul Ras, a member of Striders Club, will be walking the 32 km race on his crutches again,” says Rhoda.

The race starts at the Springs Rugby Club at 6am.

The race will affect the traffic in the Springs area until about 11am.

For the safety of the runners, the metro police has ordered partial road closures on some roads.

These instructions must be obeyed at all times.

The race follows a two-lap, circular route that snakes through Geduld, Springs CBD, Ermelo Road, Strubenvale, Casseldale, Wit Road, Selection Park and Plantation Road.

Along the route will be six water tables, in Potgieter Avenue, Krugersoord; on the corner of Wit and Ermelo roads; in front of Laerskool Christiaan Beyers in Mentz Street; in Wit Road; Rogers Road in Selection Park and in Cricket Road, Geduld.

The Springs Old Boys’ School Band will be filling the air with their music at the Duck Pond in Selection Park.

There will be a medical and physio tent at the rugby club for the athletes.

“Unfortunately, there might be delays in getting to the Sunday morning services, please allow extra time for this,” says Rhoda.

Entries has been available at the Springs Rugby Club since Monday until tomorrow (Friday), from 9am to noon.

On Saturday entry times are between 9am to 1pm and on Sunday, from 5am.

Entry fee for the 15km race is R60 and temporary licenses are R15.

The race starts at 6am.

The 32km race’s entry fee is R120 and temporary licenses are R25.

Race starts at 6am.

The fun run entry is R20 and starts at 6.15am.

The Tiny Tots race starts at 7am and the entry fee is R5.
