Reflect and share positive energy

She is confined to a wheelchair, struggles to speak and has no function in her hands, but none of these challenges have stopped her from living life to the fullest.

Do you know how often we take life, or should I say the little things that we are able to do, for granted?

Living in a bubble, we don’t appreciate the basics.

The basics could be anything, from waking up in the morning and being blessed with limbs that function without any challenges, to a job we dread waking up to every morning yet helps us pay the bills.

That is until this protective bubble bursts and we are brought down to earth and forced to reflect on our lives.

I am no exception to this dilemma.

Earlier in the week, I was introduced to Katlego Mkhonza (28), a woman who was born with spastic cerebral palsy.

This condition means that she cannot move some of her limbs.

She is confined to a wheelchair, struggles to speak and has no function in her hands, but none of these challenges have stopped her from living life to the fullest. She is full of life and shares this positive energy with those living with special needs, especially young people, through her foundation called Living Able Foundation.

During our conversation, I got to reflect and say a little prayer, thanking my creator for all the little things that I can do, usually without noticing or even appreciating them.

I also learnt that being positive in life comes with the positive energy and support we get from the people around us.

Through their unconditional love we are able to face this thing called life head-on and not care about the negativity tossed in our direction.

We are then able to achieve whatever we set our minds to.

I pray that many parents or guardians would have the same heart of gold as Katlego does, and will be there when their loved ones need them most.

Let us continue appreciating life and sharing the positive energy around us.
