Fresh on the heels of Nelson Mandela Day, I stumbled upon this quote by Chris Hani in Beeld (1992), “What I fear is that the liberators emerge as elites, who drive around in Mercedes-Benzes and use the resources of this country to live in palaces and to gather riches.”

Needless to say, the man’s nightmare has become a reality.

There often seems to be a disconnect between visionaries and their successors, or those who ‘see the vision through’.

I can’t help wondering if we still remain true to Mandela’s idea of 67 minutes.

Or should it even matter? I think it should.

If you are going to use a person’s name or legacy to accomplish any goal you set for yourself, surely you should be accountable to the same cause.

How many thousands of Rands do you think have been spent on someone’s new car or house instead of a charity event?

How many RDP houses have not been built to make sure that some get a holiday somewhere fancy?

It is happening every day, all around us.

Wolves in sheep’s clothing…

I guess it could be true people will say and do anything to get what they want.

So maybe before we get involved in ‘well meaning’ projects we should dig deeper.

I know there are many secrets that perpetuate corruption, but you will also be surprised at how many people overlook it and ‘carry on with their business’.

Society is so dirty that we are truly shocked at the sight of something pure…

I hope you did something good on Tuesday.
