Winter is almost here

Kwatsaduza – If you have not taken out your long sleeve vests, coats, boots and jerseys, then you better prepare yourself as the winter season is on your door step.

People sometimes argue about which season (summer or winter) is better and which is more costly, but either way both of these seasons have their pros and cons and people just need to find the best ways possible to cope through them.

Its not too late to start preparing for winter by getting a flu shot and stocking up on some over the counter meds that can help you deal with the first symptoms of flu before you get too sick.

Fill your cupboards with soups, hot chocolate, tea and coffee and a flask so that you can maintain keeping your family hydrated and warm.

Also invest in some warm clothing, boots and accessories like woolen hats, scarves and gloves to ensure that you dress properly and warmly.

This is also the perfect time to get yourself a good heater or make sure you have enough warm blankets to tuck yourself under.

Another imperative aspect to focus on is to make sure that you keep active, because for some people, this is the time where they become lazy and they pile on the kilos.

Your skin might also suffer more during the colder months, so invest in some moisturising lotions that will help keep your skin from drying out too easily

If you have lived long enough in this country you will know that the winter season is notorious for load shedding, which will mean that you might have to find alternate ways of staying warm by using appliances that don’t require electricity, such as gas heaters. You can also use candles for light and paraffin or gel stoves to cook on.

It is important to remember that when using these appliances you must take extra safety precautions to avoid fires. You should educate your children about fire safety and make sure you never leave them unattended, especially while you are using a paraffin stove, gas heater or candles.

Also, make sure that you do not fall asleep while using any of these items as this could put everyone at risk, especially if you live in a shack.

Keep your candles away from flammable materials such as your bedding, curtains, clothing, carpets and ensure that if you are going to use candles, they are placed in a secure position or candle holder.

During winter children might become bored if they are spending most of their time indoors. Instead of leaving them glued to the TV, create or buy games that you can all participate in as a family.
