Match of all matches

Kwatsaduza - There is no doubt that soccer is the most followed sport in South Africa, hence there is a huge frenzy when two of the biggest teams clash.

Whether you are an Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs supporter, you are bound to be drawn in by the people’s high spirits.

This coming Saturday, social media platforms will be black and white and gold and black with supporters backing their teams.

Well, I’m a buccaneer fan and will always be, but honestly I never chose to be one.

OK, let me break it down..

My dad and the rest of his family are Buccaneers, and from where I’m sitting, I doubt he even had a choice either. Like he always says to us: ‘Once a Buccaneer, always a Buccaneer’.

You can’t live in my dad’s house and be unashamed to proclaim you are rooting for his team’s biggest competition.

So that’s how I became a Buccaneer and I’m quite happy with that!

I assume most women don’t really support a soccer club based on the teams capabilities but because daddy or hubby supports the team.

I know for one that I don’t enjoy going to the stadium, especially when its a match that will attract thousands.

All that noise and traffic while getting in and out the stadium doesn’t appeal to me.

It just makes no sense to me to watch from a far, whereas I could be sitting in the comfort of my couch and having a close-up view of those strikers doing their thing.

Dealing with spectators sitting in front of you, who keep standing and blocking your view of the match is just too much effort for me.

But I guess people want to enjoy the feeling of being there when their team comes out victorious.

All I look forward to, this coming weekend, are the supporters outfits.

They give the whole battle a sense of humor.

As for the vuvuzela’s… I really feel for the spectators ears.
