Gaming Tips: Maintaining your discs

One of the most important things you can do for the longevity of your gaming console is to maintain your gaming discs.

To be honest this will prolong the life of any item in your home that reads or plays any discs. Such as DVD, CD, Blu-Ray and any other form of discs that you have.

What many people don’t know is that the bottom of your discs can be repaired and refurbished, but this is not the main part of the disc.

The top of the disc where the picture or the label is found is the most important part of the disc.

This is where all the gaming data, music or movies are stored and not at the bottom of the disc itself. So make sure you don’t scratch the top of the discs and you will be fine.

If your gaming discs are scratched at the bottom, they will give either freezing problems, not loading games problems or even cause the graphics in the game to go fuzzy sometimes.

Your laser or the eye that reads the games go through the bottom layer of the disc and reads the data on the underside of the label and then reflects that data back again to the gaming console.

If you have scratches under the discs, the data cannot be read by the laser and obstructs the data from the laser.

This causes your laser in the gaming console to keep trying to read this one spot on your disc and stays in that one place where the disc is scratched. This will cause the laser in the machine to burn out as it tries to read that spot on the disc that cannot be read properly.

Your laser can be replaced, but it’s better to maintain your discs to prolong the life of your gaming consoles laser.

Tip: To see if your discs can be repaired and that the top of the disc is not damaged, hold the disc up to a light and look at the disc from the bottom side.

If you can see the light coming through small holes or scratches on the disc, this means the top is damaged and cannot be repaired.
