Families demand justice for Kwa-Thema five

Body of missing man has been found.

Kwa-Thema – The body of the missing Nhlakanipho Ngwenya was found at the Germiston Government Mortuary on Saturday.

It is alleged the 31-year-old died moments after he found help from farm workers. He was found badly injured and died while waiting for an ambulance.

Nhlakanipho and his friend Nathi went missing on June 30 along with three friends. They were kidnapped, assaulted and dumped in various unidentified dams around Springs.

Sandile Nkosi (40), Mbongeni Nene (23) and Bavumile survived to tell the tale. Nathi, who was seen being thrown into an unidentified dam with Nhlakanipho, is still missing.

The group of friends allegedly witnessed a house break-in where laptops and cellphones were stolen.

A suspect in the crime handed himself over to the police after he managed to flee from a mob who then demanded that the five witnesses reveal where the stolen goods were sold.

Nhlakanipho’s aunt Dudu Mbuli said they were called to identify a body matching his description at a government mortuary in Germiston.

“Looking at his body through the glass, we struggled to identify his face. We had to rely on the two tattoos on his chest and right arm,” she said.

The aunt added that the family is demanding justice for the five friends.

“People cannot take the law into their own hands and get away with it. They killed our children who were not even involved in the crime.

“The suspects are dangerous and might come back to finish what they started as the six other suspects are still at large.

“Our lives will never go back to normal after the ordeal. I still have nightmares and convulsions,” he added.

Ekurhuleni SAPS spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed that two suspects have been arrested and appeared before the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday for their first appearance.

The case has been postponed to July 19 for a formal bail hearing.
