Legendary runner Sara Mahlangu shot in Tsakani
The family disclosed that Mahlangu was seriously injured during the incident.
Tsakani -Thema – Seasoned runner Sara Mahlangu is fighting for her life in hospital after being shot during an attempted robbery at her tavern on Saturday.
It is alleged that Mahlangu’s business partner went outside the back of the tavern to lock up when she heard a gunshot and returned inside.
She saw two men who were running and noticed they were patrons who were there to buy beers. Mahlangu told her business partner she had been shot and sustained injuries to her knee.
The Soweto Marathon champion and Comrades gold medalist was rushed to hospital, where she was transferred to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, where she is awaiting surgery.
Her family disclosed Mahlangu was seriously injured during the incident.
Ekurhuleni police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed a case of attempted murder is under investigation.
“ The two suspects are still on the run and police are following leads,” she added.
