Three suspects arrested for cable theft

Cable theft is rife in Duduza.

Duduza – The Duduza police have proved they are serious about curbing the theft of electricity cables.

They arrested three suspects, two males and a female, for theft and being in possession of stolen cables.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 31, were arrested on Thursday after the police received a tip-off about cables being stolen.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka said the three suspects were arrested in Zamani after being seen cutting and carrying Eskom cables.

“Cable theft is one of the factors attributed to power cuts in the area.

“It impacts the livelihood of the community and infrastructure and risks dire consequences to power supply,” he said.

Manaka called on the community, second-hand dealers and businesses to report acts of vandalism to infrastructure and the theft of cabling.
