Kwa-Thema- Two men were arrested for possession of two unlicensed firearms and 27 rounds of live ammunition on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrests followed a police tip-off that the duo was in possession of the firearms at Kwa-Thema Hostel and didn’t have permits to possess them.

Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Magudulela said upon confirming the information, officers conducted a surprise visit while the pair was still sleeping.
“Upon searching the rooms, two firearms were discovered under the respective suspect’s pillows. One Glock with 13 rounds and a Taurus with 14 rounds of live ammunition were seized from the suspects, both with their serial numbers filed off, and both suspects were arrested on the spot,” he added.

Magudulela added that the suspects would soon appear before the Springs Magistrate’s Court.
“The firearms have been forwarded to ballistics for testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of any other crimes,” he added.
